Tubbs

Tubbs’s musical odyssey began in New Zealand back in ’91, as part of the funky monks crew alongside Fat Freddy’s Drop producer DJ Mu. Here they'd throw eclectic parties that became so famous, DJ’s such as Ashley Beedle would make the long pilgrimage across the world to play. Over the following six years Tubbs committed himself to passionately indoctrinating Australasia with the Tubbs groove.

In 1997, Tubbs decided it was time to take his message further afield and found himself in London. Initially finding work as a touring DJ with legendary rapper Silver Bullet, Tubbs soon started collaborating with kindred spirits ILS and Wall Of Sound’s The Dirty Beatniks, which led to a couple of years of frantic touring - from Cherbourg through Warsaw to Singapore.

2000 saw Tubbs release his debut EP, the critically acclaimed “Lo Slung Funk”. Self released, the EP soon caught the attention of the likes of Giles Petersen and Peter Kruder, eventually leading to an album deal with fledgling label Carbon Recordings. This partnership bared fruit such as the Mr Scruff endorsed Easylife EP and ultimately the “Good Days, Better Nights” LP.

Unfortunately Carbon ran into difficulties before the album could be comprehensively released, and despite achieving critical acclaim Tubbs was left without a functional record label mid album release! Fortunately Exceptional Records were delighted to come to the rescue, making sure this hidden gem of an album, now enhanced with extra tracks can now see the light of day.

Aside from his work recording as Tubbs, Christopher Tubbs also collaborates with Steve “Choppa” Harris as Atlantic Conveyor, whose underground anthem “Nasty Things” has made them ones to watch in 2005. Collaborations are also in the pipeline with Brad ‘The Nextmen’ Baloo and Mark ‘Dog’ Sayfritz.

Tubbs’s single “New Way Of Life” featuring Dallas Tamaira (vocalist from Fat Freddy’s Drop) and New Zealand MC Hame, hit the stores complete with an Atlantic Conveyor remix, championed by the likes of Annie Mac and iDJ magazine.
